ABOUT HYDRO DIPPING

The Hydrographic Dipping Process, also known as hydro dipping, immersion printing, water transfer printing, and hydro imaging, is a specialized method enabling the application of graphics to almost any three-dimensional object.

Various materials, including plastic, metal, and wood, can be used for applying the graphic film. While traditionally prevalent in the auto industry, hydro dipping is gaining popularity in household items such as tables, chairs, and various furniture pieces.

The hydro dipping process involves seven key steps, outlined below:

HOW IT WORKS...

Objects may arrive in various conditions, and we initiate the process with initial preparations, addressing rust, dent filling, minor repairs, and smoothing. A pre-treatment coating is applied, sealing woods with a wood sealer, applying 2 coats of acid etch primer to metals, and sandblasting Poly plastics (PP, PE, PC, etc.) to remove release agents and oils, followed by a special 2k High Build Primer for blasted plastics.

The Hydro Dipping Process

1 Every part receives a minimum of 3 coats of 2k Primer. Smooth parts use a wet-on-wet formula, while textured parts receive high build primer, guide-coated, and manually smoothed. The Prep and Prime stage is crucial and time-consuming.

2 The subsequent stage involves applying 3 coats of the chosen colour, forming the primary hue for the pattern onto which the hydrographic film will be applied.

3 The hydrographic film is immersed in warm water, dissolving the PVA backing and leaving the solid ink pattern afloat on the surface.

4 Activated with a special chemical, the ink returns to a liquid state. The object is then immersed in water, allowing the ink to envelop all contours, engraving itself into the painted base coat for a permanent bond.

5 The object is rinsed to eliminate PVA residue from the dipping process.

6 Once dry, the object is finished with either a gloss, semi-matte, or matte clear coat, ensuring a flawless and protected finish.

7 After the clear coat sufficiently hardens, any dust is removed, and buffing to a high shine is conducted. Finally, the part is finished with polish and a protective wax coating.
